Esau: Stew and Eggs
Making the same mistake as Esau—who sold his birthright for a bowl of stew. Selling our birthright as Americans for eggs!!!
“It’s the economy, stupid!”
This famous “wisdom” from politics was minted by James Carville during the successful presidential election campaign of Bill Clinton.
It’s good political advice. But lousy spiritual advice—for an individual, a government, or a civilization.
As Moses taught 3,000 years ago—and as Jesus taught 2,000 years ago—humans shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. (Deuteronomy 8:3; Matthew 4:4; Luke 4:4).
We can see this from the story of Esau—the godless older brother of Jacob. Esau sold his birthright as the first born to Jacob for a bowl of stew. (Genesis 25:29-35; Hebrews 12:16-17).
Why? Because, as Genesis tells us : “Esau despised his birthright.” (Genesis 25:34).
What birthright? The birthright first given to Abraham that “all people on earth will be blessed through you”. (Genesis 12:3).
Therefore, it was with dismay that I saw so many voters in the 2024 presidential election sell their birthright as Americans because of the high price of eggs.
By voting for this 21st Century version of a bowl of stew, these voters sold their birthright as Americans to establish the ideal America that Abraham Lincoln called the last best hope of Humanity.
This ideal America was first discovered by the hearts of Abraham, Moses and Jesus.
In this ideal America we will overcome the Power of Money, the Power of Religion, and the Power of the Kingdoms of the World.
We will establish the ideal America where:
—ALL people are blessed (Abraham; Genesis 12:3);
—ALL pharaohs are challenged to set ALL people free (Moses; Exodus 8:1);
—ALL hurting people are healed (Luke 10:25-37); and
—ALL means ALL (Isaiah 2:1-3; Luke 10:25-37).
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT
Is the ideal America discovered by the hearts of Abraham, Moses and Jesus the last best hope of Humanity? How? How not? Why? Why not?
