Overcoming Darkness
Sad Trek
The recent deaths of Walter Koenig (Chekhov) and Sir Patrick Stewart (Captain Picard) triggered thoughts about what comes after death. I realized that I don’t just want the resurrection of specific people. I want the “resurrection” of entire experiences in my life. How is this possible?
As I draft this blog, it’s been a hard week for Star Trek fans. We lost both Walter Koenig (Chekov) and Sir Patrick Stewart (Captain Picard).
Their deaths triggered thoughts of what comes after death.
I realized that I don’t just want the resurrection of specific people. I want the “resurrection” of entire experiences in my life. How is this possible?
I fell back on Jesus’s response to those who denied the resurrection of the dead. They asked Jesus a hypothetical. If a woman had been married to seven men, whose wife would she be at the resurrection?
Jesus replied they were in error because they did not know the Scriptures nor the power of God. (Matthew 22:23-33).
Therefore, I am not going to spin hypotheticals. I will, however, say that I believe that it will be something like what I say about going back to high school. I say I’d love being back in high school for a day, as long as there weren’t any tests that day.
In Heaven, there are no tests. God wipes away all our tears. (Revelation 21:4).
I don’t know the specifics of how God will resurrect the good times we lived through as we lived. Our childhood. Teenage years. College. Law school. Marriage. Fatherhood. Grandfatherhood.
But, nevertheless:
I am convinced that neither life nor death, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39).
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT
What good times will you want to remember in Heaven? Why? How?
What bad times will you want to forget in Heaven? Why? How?
