Peter and John healed a crippled man in the Temple, and then preached that Jesus was the Messiah. As a result, the rulers and elders who had condemned Jesus to death for claiming to be the Messiah ordered Peter and John not to speak or teach in the name of Jesus. Nevertheless, Peter and John defied the ruling elite and kept preaching.
