Spreading Light

A Half Hour of Silence

In the silence (that I hope will follow the end of electioneering), we need to listen to the still, small voice of God. We need to hear with our ears, see with our eyes, and understand with our hearts. Then we will know how to change our ways and be healed. (Isaiah 6:9-10). Then we will go out in joy and be led forth in peace. (Isaiah 55:12).

The book of Revelation says that, when the Lamb (meaning Jesus) opened the seventh seal, “there was silence in heaven for about half an hour” (Revelation 8:1).

I’m not going to focus on the meaning of this passage in Revelation. But I am going to mention that it came to my mind as I was looking for a topic for my next blog.

As I write this blog, Election Day is almost here. We still don’t know who will win.

But I do know one thing. I hope that there will be silence from politicians for at least “half an hour”.

I’m so tired of hearing and seeing politicians talking, emailing, and lying!

I’m so tired of understanding that much of this talking, emailing and lying is intended to increase the Power of Money, the Power of Religion, and the Power of the Kingdoms of this World.

Enough all ready!!!

Now we need the sounds of silence.

In this silence, what should we listen to?

The still, small voice of God, proclaiming that the LORD is compassionate (Exodus 34:6-7)

The still, small voice of God, reminding us that—regardless of who wins or loses an election—the LORD still has hopes and plans for us, and for America. (Jeremiah 29:11; 1 Kings 19:11-12).

As the Prophet Isaiah urged, we need to hear with our ears, see with our eyes, and understand with our hearts. Then we will know how to change our ways and be healed. (Isaiah 6:10).

When we hear, see and understand the words that the LORD is saying, his words will accomplish the purpose for which he speaks them. (Matthew 5:17; Matthew 28:18-20).

We will go out in joy and be led forth in peace. (Isaiah 55:12).

BACKGROUND

The phrase “the sounds of silence” was made famous by Simon & Garfunkel in their hit song and album of that name.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT

After the Election, do you expect that politicians will stop talking, emailing and lying? Why? Why not?

After the Election, do you expect that we will listen to the still, small voice of God, listening with our ears, seeing with our eyes, and understanding with our hearts? Why? Why not?

After the Election, do you expect that we will change our ways and be healed? Why? Why not?

After the Election, if we change our ways, do you expect we’ll go out in joy and be led forth in peace? Why? Why not?
