Visions of America

It’s Time To Cook!

When it comes to preparing a large Thanksgiving Dinner, there’s a time to talk about it. And there’s a time to cook it! Unfortunately, many people are wiser about cooking a Thanksgiving Dinner than about governing the United States.

When it comes to preparing a large Thanksgiving Dinner, there’s a time to talk about it. And there’s a time to cook it!

When planning the dinner, there’s a time to talk about potentially divisive topics such as:

—Whose house will we gather at?

—What do we eat? Turkey? Or ham?

—Who brings the pumpkin pie? The apple pie?

—Who cooks the turkey? Who bakes the pies?

But, there’s a time and a season for every purpose under heaven. (Ecclesiastes 1:1-8).

And so, eventually the time comes stop talking and start cooking!

There must not be too many cooks in the kitchen.

Each cook must concentrate on cooking, not talking.

And certainly, no one must waste time and energy by arguing again and again and AGAIN about decisions that have already been made.

There’ll be a chance to talk about these topics again when planning the Christmas Dinner. Or next year’s Thanksgiving Dinner.

And the answers may well be different.

There may be a “term limit” on gathering again at the same house.

One person may be best at roasting a turkey. A different person may be best at baking a ham. Someone may prepare a vegan alternative.

People prefer different desserts and snacks at Christmas than at Thanksgiving.

Unfortunately, many people are wiser about cooking a Thanksgiving Dinner than about governing the United States.

Virtually everyone who I talk with is sick and tired. But not from the Flu or Covid!

They’re sick and tired of arguing again, and again, and AGAIN about the last election.

The time has come to actually govern the country!

The time has come to actually cook the dinner!

When the time comes for planning the Christmas Dinner—or the next Thanksgiving Dinner—there’ll be plenty of time to debate whatever needs to be decided.

But for now, let’s enjoy the “dinner”.

Let’s all enjoy a holiday—a Sabbath—from politics.

Let’s all enjoy our government of the people, by the people, and for the people that secures our God-given rights to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Let’s all thank God for our government of the people, by the people, and for the people that secures our God-given rights to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.

QUESTIONS TO THINK ABOUT

In your family, how hard is it to agree about whose house you’ll gather at for Thanksgiving Dinner, whether there’ll be turkey, and what pies there’ll be?

Are there ever arguments about these decisions?

How are decisions reached?

Are different decisions made for Christmas Dinner?

In what ways is our government of the people, by the people, and for the people?

In what ways is our government of, by and for the Power of Money, the Power of Religion, or the Power of the Kingdoms of the World?

How well is our government doing at securing our God-given rights to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness?
