Overcoming Darkness
Do Not Trust Anyone’s Morality
The Founding Fathers framed our government to restrain evil. Therefore, they limited the president’s powers by sharing powers among the Congress, the Supreme Court, state governments, free speech, and freedom of religion. Therefore, I was terrified when the President recently boasted that the only limit on his international power is his own morality.
The Founding Fathers framed our government to restrain evil. For example, they took to heart wisdom such as “[L]ean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5-6). They understood that “the human heart is desperately wicked” (Jeremiah 17:9).
Therefore, they limited the president’s power by sharing powers among the Congress, the Supreme Court, state governments, free speech, and freedom of religion.
Therefore, I was terrified when the President recently boasted that the only limit on his international power is his own morality.
This boast from a man who has made a lifelong practice of immorality: repeated thefts by cheating contractors; repeated adulteries; repeated false witness (he lost a fair election to Joe Biden), and repeated coveting (taking Venezuelan oil and threatening Greenland)!
This boast from a man who has the exclusive power to fire nuclear weapons!
This is not a novel. This is our terrifying reality.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT
Do you believe morality will limit Trump’s actions, domestically or internationally? Why? Why not? How? How not?
