Seeing & Hearing
Listening to the Heart of God
When we hold and feed our baby granddaughter, we notice that she twists herself so she can hear our heart beat. We believe she desires to hear our heart beat because she could always hear her mother’s heart beat while she was in her mother’s womb. Do you yearn to listen to God’s heart beat? I hope so. The Psalmist did. Psalm 42 says: “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.”

Do you yearn to listen to God’s heart beat? I hope so.
The Psalmist did. Psalm 42 says:
As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God.
My soul thirsts for God,
for the living God. (Psalm 42:1-2).
By day the LORD directs his love,
at night his song is with me. (Psalm 42:8).
What does God’s heartbeat sound like?
The sound of compassion. (Exodus 34:6)
The sound of amazing grace. (Exodus 34:6)
The sound of patience. (Exodus 34:6).
The sound of abounding love. (Exodus 34:6).
The sound of abounding faithfulness. (Exodus 34:6).
The sound of mercy. (Exodus 34:7).
If you listen to these heartbeats—if you stay close to the heart of the LORD—you will feast on the “milk” of the LORD, on all the words of the LORD. You will put these words and heartbeats of the LORD into action. And you will grow so strong in the LORD that you will stand firm when storms arise in your life. (Matthew 7:24-28).
