Woodpecker Pecking Persistently

We are what we eat! So spend each day eating “bugs” spawned by the Presence of the LORD. Never eat any “bug” spawned by acts of the Flesh. Never eat any “bug” spawned by the Power of Money, the Power of Religion, or the Power of the Kingdoms of the World. (Matthew 4:1-11; Luke 4:1-13).

Almost each day at dawn, a woodpecker pecks persistently outside my patio in Florida. As best I can tell, he always pecks at the same spot on the same limb of the same tree!!

I assume there are some tasty bugs living in that part of the tree. Hence, he comes back to that same spot again and again.

Where do you “peck” persistently each day? Which types of “bugs” taste good to you?

Are they “bugs” spawned by acts of the Flesh? “Bugs” spawned by:

—Sexual immorality.

—Impurity.

—Debauchery.

—Idolatry.

—Witchcraft.

—Hatred.

—Discord.

—Jealousy.

—Fits of rage.

—Selfish ambition.

—Dissensions.

—Factions.

—Envy.

—Drunkenness.

—Orgies and the like.

(Galatians 5:19-21)

Or are they “bugs” spawned by the Presence of the LORD? Bugs spawned by:

—Compassion.

—Graciousness.

—Slowness to anger.

—Love and faithfulness.

—Forgiveness for wickedness, rebellion and sin.

—Limits on the bad consequences of bad choices.

(Exodus 34:6-7)

We are what we eat!

So spend each day eating “bugs” spawned by the Presence of the LORD.

Never eat any “bug” spawned by acts of the Flesh.

Never eat any “bug” spawned by the Power of Money, the Power of Religion, or the Power of the Kingdoms of the World. (Matthew 4:1-11; Luke 4:1-13).

Spend each day praying the same prayer that Moses prayed:

“Teach us to number our days,

that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

(Psalm 90:13)

If we number each day by pecking persistently to eat bugs of wisdom, we will gain a heart of wisdom—a heart that sees, hears and understands the compassion of the LORD that:

satisfies us in the morning with his unfailing love,

that we may sing for joy

and be glad all our days.

(Psalm 90:13-15

With this heart of wisdom, we will see, hear, and understand how the Presence of the LORD embodied in Jesus, the Messiah, is establishing the work of our hands in our lives—and in our world—with compassion; graciousness; slowness to anger; love and faithfulness; forgiveness for wickedness, sin and rebellion; and limits on the bad consequences of our bad choices. (Exodus 34:6-7).

With this heart of wisdom, we will see, hear and understand how the Fruit of the Spirit of the LORD embodied in Jesus, the Messiah, is establishing the work of our hands in our lives—and in our world—with love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23).

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT

Which “bugs” do you eat each day?

Which “bugs” taste best to you?

Which “bugs” nourish you the best?

During your life, have the “bugs” that taste best to you changed? How? Why?
