Meditations: Let It Go
Early in the morning, I let “it” go! I let my worries and negative thoughts go. Especially worries and negative thoughts that kept me tossing and turning all night. This is not letting “it” go because “it” doesn’t exist. (Genesis 1:1). Or because “it” doesn’t matter. (John 11:35; Luke 19:41-42). I can let “it” go because I can trust the LORD my God to give me Peace and Comfort. (Psalm 4:8; Psalm 29:11; Isaiah 40:1).
Early in the morning, I begin lifting my spirits by thinking: “This is the day that the LORD hath made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Paraphrasing Psalm 118:24 KJV) (see my blog “Meditations: This Is the Day That the LORD Hath Made”).
Next, I focus my thoughts on the phrase “Let it go”. This phrase isn’t a quote from a specific Scripture. But it is certainly supported by a number of Scriptures.
Jesus himself urged us not to worry too much. (Matthew 6:25-34).
The Psalmist comforted us with the thoughts:
I can lie down and sleep in peace
for the LORD enables me to dwell in safety.
(paraphrasing Psalm 4:8).
The LORD gives strength to his people;
the LORD blesses his people with peace.
(Psalm 29:11).
The Prophet Isaiah assured us that God says, “Comfort, comfort my people”. (Isaiah 40:1).
And so, I let “it” go—whatever the “it” may be that is making me uptight.
I breathe deeply, in rhythm with the phrases that I discuss in my blogs about Meditations. (see below in READ MORE).
I breathe slowly, in rhythm with these mantras that remind me of the Peace and Comfort that are the gift of the LORD my God.
I relax the muscles in my neck, shoulders and hands.
I focus my senses on my surroundings. Sunshine glowing. Birds singing. Birds flying. Ducks paddling. Squirrels jumping. Bunnies hopping.
I let my worries go. Especially negative thoughts that kept me tossing and turning all night.
I let “it” go!
I don’t let “it” go because “it” doesn’t exist, or because “it” isn’t real. (Genesis 1:1).
Or because “it” doesn’t matter. (John 11:35; Luke 19:41-42).
Or because “it” is an unconscious, impersonal, unfeeling force. (Genesis 3:8-9; Isaiah 1:1-2:5).
Or because “it” is meaningless. (Ecclesiastes 13:13-14).
I can let “it” go because I can trust the LORD my God to give me Peace and Comfort. (Psalm 4:8; Psalm 29:11; Isaiah 40:1; Isaiah 2:1-4; Isaiah 52:13-53:12).
I can let “it” go because I can trust Jesus who sacrificed himself to give us an abundant life that we can enjoy forever. (John 10:10; Isaiah 52:13-53:12; Luke 15:1-31).
