Spreading Light
My Cats Greet Me Eagerly for the Sunrise
Early in the morning, my cats come running toward me, eager to go onto the patio with me for the sunrise. Similarly, God loves it when we come running toward him, eager to share an abundant life that we’ll enjoy to the full. (Psalm 23:5-6; John 10:10).
I had not drunk even one cup of coffee yet. And here came two of my cats racing toward me. They were eager to greet me. And for me to open the sliding door so they could go onto the patio to enjoy the sunrise.
I thought of how happy it makes God to see us come running eagerly toward him.
He loves it when we draw near to him so that he draws near to us! (James 4:8).
He loves it when we, “through Jesus, . . . continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise” (Hebrews 13:15). How? By continually doing good and sharing with others, “for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” (Hebrews 13:16).
He loves it when we come running toward him to “[s]ing to the LORD a new song” (Psalm 96:1).
He loves it when we come running toward him to “proclaim his salvation day after day”—to declare “his marvelous deeds among all peoples.” (Psalm 96:2-3).
He loves to slide open the “door” to his “patio” that overflows with goodness and love, welcoming us to share an abundant life with him that we’ll enjoy to the full (Psalm 23:5-6; John 10:10)—just as I love to welcome my cats onto my patio to enjoy to the full with me an abundant dawn of a rising sun, singing birds, and swimming ducks.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT
How do you draw near to God so that he draws near to you? Why?
How do you praise God, proclaiming his salvation day by day and declaring his marvelous deeds?
What is the “patio” where you share with Jesus an abundant life that you enjoy to the full?
