America has seldom been divided as bitterly as it is today. Therefore, it is wise to remember how in his Gettysburg Address Lincoln unified Americans from the hatred and divisions that caused the Civil War.

In his Gettysburg Address, Lincoln captured the vision of America that unifies all Americans.

Lincoln spoke of America as a “new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all [people] are created equal.”

All Americans must be “dedicated to the great task remaining before us.”

What is this great task for all Americans?

That “[America], under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”
