Overcoming Darkness
Pandemic Wisdom: Straining at the Oars
“[Jesus] saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them.” (Mark 6:48). This verse resonates with our experiences in 2020.
This verse caught my attention in late December of 2020:
“[Jesus] saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them.” (Mark 6:48).
This verse resonates with our experiences in 2020.
Many headwinds are causing us to strain against the oars.
Sickness. Fear of sickness.
Death. Fear of death.
Unemployment. Fear of unemployment.
Hunger. Fear of hunger.
Roadblocks to education. Fear of more roadblocks to education.
Roadblocks to justice. Fear of more roadblocks to justice.
Violence. Fear of more violence.
Stress. Fear of more stress.
I’m sure that each of us can add to this list.
But take heart!
No matter why you are straining at the oars. No matter how hard you are straining at the oars.
No matter how hard the winds are blowing against you. No matter which directions the winds are blowing against you.
Jesus sees you. Jesus cares. Jesus is coming to help. Jesus will bring you safely to shore! (Mark 6:45-53).
