Spreading Light

Handel’s Messiah: The LORD Gave the Word

As the Gospel of John tells us, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1). Handel sets to music, the realization that the Messiah (Jesus) is this Word of God. And that: the Lord gave the word: great was the company of preachers (Psalm 68:11). How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! (Romans 10:15).

How does the  Messiah spread his Light?

Not by Might nor by Power, but by the Spirit of the LORD. From the very first chapter of the Bible, the Spirit of the LORD is present. And so is the Word of the LORD: “Let there be Light”.

As the Gospel of John tells us, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1).

Handel sets to music, this realization that the Messiah (Jesus) is this Word of God. And that:

the Lord gave the word: great was the company of preachers (Psalm 68:11).

How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! (Romans 10:15).

Their sound has gone out into all lands, and their words unto all the ends of the world. (Romans 10:18).

The lyrics and music of Handel’s Messiah are part of this preaching the gospel of peace, and bringing glad tidings of good things.

The sound of Handel’s Messiah has gone out into all the lands, and its words unto all the ends of the earth.

No wonder Handel’s Messiah breaks into praise in the Hallelujah Chorus, and no wonder we rise to our feet to worship in Spirit and in Truth, and sing together with the angels and saints in heaven (Revelation 5:11-13):

“Hallelujah:  for the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth” (Revelation 19:6). The kingdom of this world is become the kingdom of our lord, and of his Christ, and he shall reign for ever and ever. (Revelation 11:15). King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. (Revelation 19:16) “Hallelujah!”

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT

Do you believe that the Messiah conquers with might and power such as guns and bombs, or by sending his followers to preach the Word of God with its gospel of peace and glad tidings in all lands? Why? Why not?

Are you one of those with beautiful feet who preaches the gospel of peace and brings glad tidings of good things? How? How not? Why? Why not?
