Spreading Light

The One and Only Password: Jesus!

Many people share my frustrations with modern technology, including the repeated requirements for passwords. Fortunately, we need one, and only one, password to find the Way we should live: Jesus!

In a gated community, the people at the community pool are a good “public opinion poll”.

One day at the pool, I found many people who share my frustrations with modern technology. Repeated requirements for passwords are particularly unpopular.

It seems as if we can’t even blow our nose without first having to give our password! Maybe “gesundheit”? Or “excuseme”?

This got me thinking how lucky we are that we need one, and only one, password to find the Way we should live: Jesus!

Jesus himself told us: “I am the way, the truth, and the life!” (John 14:6).

Why is Jesus the one and only password we need? He embodies the Spirit of the one LORD our God. (Deuteronomy 6:4-5; John 1:1-5,14).

Jesus embodies the Creative Wisdom of the First Chapter of Genesis, creating and sustaining a world that is good, that is very good, including lights in the sky, plants and animals, and humanity (Genesis 1:1-31; John 1:1-5).

Jesus embodies the Compassionate Wisdom of the LORD, the LORD who is the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands of generations, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin, limiting the bad consequences of our bad choices as much as feasible. (Exodus 34:6-7).

Jesus embodies the Loving Wisdom of the LORD that leads to love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23).

Therefore, during his public ministry, we see Jesus embodying Creative Wisdom, Compassionate Wisdom, and Loving Wisdom as he lives in the Way that shows us how to become best friends who bless children, welcome sinners, weep together, wash each other’s feet, and laugh together.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT

In what ways do we need wisdom to be creative?

In what ways do we need wisdom to be compassionate?

In what ways do we need wisdom to be loving?

In what ways do we need wisdom to bless children, welcome sinners, weep together, wash each other’s feet, and laugh together?
