Spreading Light
The Way of Jesus: The Life
What is the Truth about the Way of Life that Jesus taught us to live? The Sermon on the Mount; the way Jesus lived, and the ideal America first discovered in the hearts of Abraham, Moses and Jesus: blessing all people, challenging all “pharaohs” to set all people free, and healing all people.
Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life!” (John 14:6).
Jesus promised us that he came so that we may have Life and so that we may enjoy Life to the full. (John 10:10).
What is this Life that we may enjoy to the full?
It is Life in the Way of Jesus.
It is the Way of Life that Jesus taught us to live in his Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:1-8:4).
It is the Way of Life that fulfills the Law of Moses and the Prophets. (Matthew 5:18).
It is the Way of Life that lights the world because people see our good deeds and glorify our Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16).
It is the Way of Life that does everything for others that we would like them to do for us, for this sums up the Law of Moses and the Prophets. (Matthew 7:12; Matthew 22:35-40).
It is the Way of Life that does not collapse or wash away when “rain” comes, “streams” rise, and “wind” blows.
Why? Because we hear the words of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount and put them into practice. (Matthew 7:24-27).
How? By living the Way Jesus lived:
—becoming a best friend;
—blessing children;
—welcoming sinners;
—weeping with others;
—washing the feet of others; and
—laughing with others.
(see my books Hoping in the LORD and Lighting the World.)
This Way of Life needs to extend throughout our whole civilization, including our families, faith communities, schools, businesses, governments, and systems of laws and customs.
In all aspects of our whole civilization, our Way of Life needs to implement the vision of the ideal America first discovered in the hearts of Abraham, Moses and Jesus:
—blessing all peoples (Genesis 12:1-3);
—challenging all “pharaohs” to set all people free (Exodus 5:1-15:21); and
—healing all hurting people, including those who differ from us in ethnicity, religion or nationality (Luke 9:51-56; Luke 10:25-37; Luke 15:1-32).
The Truth is that this Way of Jesus gives us the kind of Life that we may enjoy to the full.
The Truth is that this Way of Jesus overcomes the despair and disillusionment of the Nones by giving them the kind of life that they may enjoy to the full.
